Naval Warship Parts Harvesting
In support of the Navy’s program for recapitalization and reutilization of parts to support for both the remaining USN active ships as well as Foreign operators of the OLIVER HAZARD PERRY Class FFG, the ex-HAWES (FFG 53) and ex-DOYLE (FFG 39) were turned over to Philadelphia Ship Repair under contract by the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division for parts harvesting in masse.
These ships were returned last month and the ex-NICHOLAS (FFG 47) and ex-UNDERWOOD (FFG 36) were removed for harvesting. Equipment removed from these decommissioned FFG 7 Class ships that have been stricken from the Naval Vessel Register include, propellers, shafts, bearings, engines, controllable pitch propeller (CPP), main reduction gear (MRG) components, rudders and other associated parts.
