Emergency Damage Response at Sea
On June 17th 2017 the USS Fitzgerald DDG 62 collided with a cargo ship causing severe damage both above and below the waterline. Global’s Emergency Response Team at Port Hueneme responded to assist MDSU divers at Naval Fleet Activities Yokosuka Japan in stabilizing the ship. SUPSAV salvage assets were deployed from the Emergency Response Complex Sasebo, Japan and operated by our team members.
Emergency Response equipment was used in patching the hull and dewatering several compartments. Joe and Jon stayed with the ship and rode it into dry dock manning the pumps in case of any further breaches in the hull. The Fitzgerald is now out of the water and being assessed for long term repairs.
